-1. finding out the Wahloption (electable boards) on tuPORT
The so called Wahloption can be seen from within the tuPort-portal (TAN required). Go to Bescheide und Bescheinigungen, then click on Bescheinigung für die Gremienwahlen (report for comittee elections). Since the PDF will be opened in a pop-up your browser may or may not show you a warning at first. And sometimes, requesting a PDF works only on the second try … ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The path to your Bescheinigung für Greminewahlen (report for comittee elections) is rather simple.
If you still have an oldStudienbescheinigung somewhere and didn't change your course of studies in the meantime, you can find the Wahloption under Wahlberechtigt für:. If the number of the institute is 9999, you didn't choose an institute.
You can find the Wahloption under Wahlberechtigt für: on the old Studienbescheinigung.
0. Remembering Wahlfakultät (faculty where you're eligble to vote in) and Wahlinstitut (institute where you're eligble to vote in)
Within the process of your immatriculation you should have been prompted to choose a Wahlinstitut. If you're studying in multiple degrees at TU Berlin, you also should have decided in which faculty you want to execute your active voting right in. Otherwise, your Wahlfakultät is the faculty your degree programme is settled in.

You're allowed to change your selections of your Wahlfakultät and Wahlinstitut with every re-registration. You can find the appropriate form on the second page of the report.
1. Open the Website of the Central Election Board at TU Berlin
You can find current information about meetings and election notices on the website of the Central Election Board (Zentraler Wahlvorstand, Wahlamt). On this website, open “hier” (here) in a new tab to get to the next step or go to Quick Access 21744 in a new tab.
The link to further information is a little unremarkable and has therefore been highlighted on the above picture.
2. Download the request for absentee ballot
Within the further information (“here”, or the second tab) page you can find the request for absentee ballot. For the two election cycles you need to download different forms:
… and find out, that the “Okz.” (organisational number) of your institute only is printed on the new report for comittee elections. It's the easiest to just go to step -1 and look it up there. Otherwise, you can also look it up in the table below. If you don't study at faculty IV and don't want to waste a TAN you can also find it in the Wahlbekanntmachung on the homepage of the Central Election Board (first tab). For the faculty the number of the faculty is sufficient more ….
Filling out the form should be possible with most modern PDF Readers, but you can also use a pen or tablet.

4. Sign the request for absentee ballot with your real signature
To do this, the request can be printed, signed, and scanned, or can be signed with a digitalized copy (e. g. using a tablet) of your signature directly in the document.
It is very important, that your signature is clearly visible in the digital version of your document.
Examplary prefilled version of the request for absentee ballot for Faculty Council, Academic Senate, Board of Trustees, Council to The Women's Representative. You may use the language version you like better (the English version has some strange translations). You have to use your handwritten signature, other signature types are not allowed (e. g. elektronische Signatur, fortgeschrittene Signatur or qualifizierte Signatur).
In the example above, a student (St) named Konrad Sumba (matriculation number 001337), who decided not to specify a phone number or e-mail address and currently resides under the given address, would like to receive absentee ballots for faculty IV. That also includes the absentee ballots for the Academic Senate and the Board of Trustees. For female students it would also include the absentee ballot for the Council to The Women's Representative at faculty IV.
It would also be correct to fill the request completely by hand or use the given PDF form without a lot of white space or text alignment, see the last two details.
5. send the request to the Central Election Board
There are a couple of ways for sending the request to the Central Election Comittee. The fastest are probably doing this by
also, the request can be sent by in-house mail (Hauspost) from every manned gate at TU Berlin:
Hauspost
Geschäftsstelle des Zentralen Wahlvorstandes
Sekr. K 35
It is also possible to send the request by regular mail to the Central Election Board:
TU Berlin
Geschäftsstelle des Zentralen Wahlvorstandes
Sekr. K 35
Straße des 17. Juni 135, 10623 Berlin
The request for absentee ballot should be filled out and sent rather quickly. The Central Election Comittee can not guarantee a timely handling of the request after 6 January 2021 for the election of the Institute Council.
6. Wait for the absentee ballot …
This should not take very long. And nothing will go wrong either … | Meme: Pablo Escobar Waiting stils from the second season of the series Narcos from Netflix (2016).
7. Send the absentee ballot back
The absentee ballot shoud be filled out according to the note included in the absentee ballot material and then sent back to TU Berlin by regular mail (or in-house mail). All postal charges are covered by TU Berlin, at least if you mail from somewhere in Germany.
The ballot papers must be received by the Central Election Board by the end of the respective election. That means on the
14 January 2021 at 3 pm for the elections to the Institute Councils and on the
18 February 2021 at 3 pm for the elections to the (extended) Academic Senate, the Board of Trustees, the Faculty Council or the Council to The Women's Representative.
Don't forget: The assurance (Versicherung) on the Wahlschein (not the ballot paper (Stimmzettel) itself) must be signed. Otherwise the vote cannot be counted.
The steps in detail:
mark the ballot paper (Stimmzettel) and put it into the coloured ballot paper envelope,
seal the ballot paper envelope,
Sign the Wahlschein, fold it with the writing facing outwards and place it around the ballot paper envelope,
place everything in the white reply envelope and seal it,
